Christian Horta—Audio Technician

We’re delighted to welcome Christian Horta as Pine Street’s new Audio Technician. Christian holds a bachelor’s degree from Lebanon Valley College with a major in Audio & Music Production and a minor in Music Business.

Christian will be on duty on Sunday mornings, monitoring sound; if an issue arises, he’s typically already on top of it and can resolve the problem without assistance.

 Services will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at Pine Street Presbyterian Church. A public visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Stuart Seelman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Program at Pine Street Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg or to Grove City College, in honor of Bob’s lifelong love of music, faith, and education.

Calling All Dog Lovers! 🐾 WoofStock 2025

Pine Street will once again have a booth at Woofstock, and we’d love for you to be part of the fun! If you enjoy wagging tails, friendly faces, and sharing a little love and kindness, we need your help.

Volunteers are needed to:

• Help set up our booth
• Give pet blessings to our furry visitors
• Share Pine Street materials with attendees
• Assist with booth tear-down

It’s a joyful, tail-wagging good time—and a great way to connect with the community (both two-legged and four!).

September Giving Barrel

Harrisburg’s new ‘Miracle Community’ for homeless people needs Pine Street’s help.

The Miracle Community, provided by AMiracle4sure, offers residents security, water, and mail service, but the nonprofit has no budget for essential items like tents, tarps, and solar equipment. AMiracle4sure has purchased a lot for up to 60 tents located near Cameron and Shanois streets in South Harrisburg.

It’s the product of months of planning by Harrisburg City and Dauphin County officials due to the impending relocation of the long-standing Tent City on South Front Street near the PennDOT driver services center. All the unhoused people currently living in Tent City are being asked to relocate because PennDOT plans to take over the site this fall as a staging area for the ongoing Interstate 83 construction.

Relocations to the Miracle Community site began in early August and will continue. But the new community has many needs. Prayerfully, our Pine Street congregation can help meet some of those needs with their generous donations to the Giving Barrel throughout the month of September.

Amiracle4sure is actively seeking donations of the following items that it says will be “used directly toward the development of our new housing space.”

The items in most need are:

• 6-8 person tents
• Large-sized tarps
• Paper goods (paper towels, plates, toilet paper, feminine products)
• Solar lamps
• Solar fans
• Solar heaters
• Bug spray
• Heavy-duty storage containers

The nonprofit adds that “monetary donations will help with the purchase and building of shaded structures for our residents.”

The site offers unhoused people 14-foot-by14-foot plots for their tents. Each plot has plastic pallets and a plywood platform to keep the tents off the gravel lot. The site also features video monitoring for security and a set of rules to keep it friendly, orderly and from being overrun with trash.

There’s a wooden pavilion for shade on the otherwise treeless and unshaded site. There are large storage containers for people’s personal possessions, a mailing address for residents to receive their state and federal benefits and other correspondence, filtered drinking water and port-a-potties.

Upon fulfillment of our September Giving Barrel drive to benefit this new community, any interested congregation members will be invited to help deliver our donations to Amiracle4sure and to visit the site and meet some of our new neighbors in the Miracle Community.

In this season of increased demand, we humbly reach out to you once again for support. Our pantry shelves are in urgent need of restocking, and we are inviting our church partners to help us continue feeding the community through specific donations. Currently, we are especially in need of:

• Cereal (boxed, any variety)
• Canned goods (soups, vegetables, beans, fruits, etc.)
• Easy meals/sides (macaroni and cheese, boxed pasta/rice, instant meals)
• Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, hot sauce, salad dressings)
• Seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, etc.)

Thank you for standing with us in service. Together, we are nourishing bodies and lifting spirits—one meal, one family, one act of kindness at a time.

Any help would be appreciated. Please place your donations for DDB in the bins located outside our Communion prep room.

Solo Aging Friends Group off to a Wonderful Start!

Pine Street Presbyterian Church’s Outreach & Evangelism committee has started a new group, Solo Aging Friends.  Interest in this group grew from church members who are aging independently – without the reliable support of a spouse, partner, or child(ren) and are interested in  opportunities to meet with other “agers” in similar situations.  Objectives of the group are to offer programs related to challenges one may encounter with aging – social isolation, planning for their future, etc., and social events/gatherings.

Since their initial meeting, PSPC Solo Aging Friends has held three events:

• An initial lunch meeting where ideas for possible future programs and outings were discussed.
• A Fourth of July picnic at Mt. Gretna where attendees enjoyed a potluck “picnic”.
• Dinner out together followed by a visit to PSPC’s Third in the “Burg”’ open house featuring the music provided by Matty Felix and works of art by Gordon Blout, Nic Port and Gloria and Mackenzie Peifer.
