Around the Church for June 8, 2022

Deacons Retreat 2022

The Deacons enjoyed a beautiful sunny day for their retreat. It was a wonderful time of welcoming the new deacon class into the fellowship!

Choir Picnic
The Chancel Choir ended the season with a picnic at the home of Jack and Jennifer Ferry, where they celebrated another year of wonderful worship leadership. Thank you, Jack and Jennifer, for hosting the picnic!

50 Year Member Recognition
Can you “recognize” our two honored members from their pictures of 50 years ago?
On Sunday, June 26, we will be honoring them during morning worship. Please join us in thanking them for their dedicated membership and service to Pine Street.

3rd in the Burg
Last month’s Third in the Burg open house was the best attended in a long time! Kevin Neidig drew quite a crowd as he entertained with his guitar and wonderful singing voice in the outdoor courtyard. Kevin has agreed to join us again this month on Friday, June 17, at 7:00 pm for a repeat performance. If you missed him last month, come on out and listen! Our Artsfest community mural will also be on display!

2022 DDB Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are integral to Downtown Daily Bread! They make our efforts to serve the hungry and homeless in the Harrisburg community possible. Volunteers help us change lives daily!

Listed below are some specific opportunities for Pine Street members and friends. Please contact Susan Cann if you are interested or need more information. She can be reached at 717-238-4717 or [email protected].

Soup Kitchen
Monday – Friday (BREAKFAST 7:00 am – 8:00 am/LUNCH 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm)
On average, 120 people come to the Soup Kitchen for lunch each day. Volunteers help greet and serve the meals. In addition, they help the kitchen staff with clean up at the end of lunch. Currently, more than 15 churches, synagogues, and groups schedule volunteers each month. We welcome new volunteers to enter this rotation on a periodic or singular basis.

Day Shelter Kitchen
(Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 am to 11:00 am)
The Day Shelter is a one-of-its-kind resource in our community. It is open every day of the year. The shelter has a small kitchen that offers coffee, water, and donated snacks. We welcome a volunteer to set up and serve these items on designated mornings.

Adult Learning Center
(Monday – Thursday, 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm)
The ALC is always interested in learning of and meeting potential tutors to help students seeking a high school diploma. Our most pressing needs are for math tutors for this high school program. Additionally, we are seeking tutors from any background to assist students with their writing needs. Training will be available for all tutors wishing to help! Interested individuals should contact Matt Lyter at [email protected].

Current COVID Procedure
Pine Street Presbyterian Church will follow CDC guidelines to ease masking requirements and allow in-person gatherings, including food. While Dauphin and Cumberland Counties are in the low or medium community levels (according to the CDC’s “COVID-19 by County” page found at
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-by-county.html). Masks will be optional for all Pine Street events, including worship. Session and staff will monitor the community levels and change health and safety guidelines if the local counties are high. Worshipers are welcome to wear masks if that helps them feel comfortable in worship.
