Around the Church for September 29, 2021

Using Technology for the Church
Almost everyone nowadays is connected on social media through Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, Skype, or simple email communications. It is almost impossible to conduct daily business without some sort of internet interaction. And, as people live more and more of their lives connected, church should be no exception.

There are several ways in which we can enrich our church experience with the use of technology. One, in particular, is through the use of social media. Social media allows us to reach out to the people in the world at large and fill them in on what Pine Street is doing. It allows us to be accessible 24 hours a day with encouragement and information. It gives us the opportunity to reach thousands of people who otherwise wouldn’t even know we were here.

As we move toward 2022 there are things that each of us can do to help promote our church and the activities and programs we offer. The easiest way is to invite your Facebook and Instagram friends and followers to like and follow the church pages. On Facebook you can find us as Pine Street Presbyterian. On Instagram we are @pinestreetpresbyterian. Check out the church Facebook or Instagram page from time to time. You will find information about upcoming events and other notices. You can also share these posts to your page so they will be seen by more people. Together we can make a bigger difference in our community by being intentional in how we use social media.

Contact Kerry Drown, Office Administrator, if you have any questions or need assistance with church social media. She can be reached at 717-238-9304, ext. 112.

Peace & Global Witness Offering
This Sunday we will collect our denomination’s Peace & Global Witness Offering. A gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the Presbyterian Church (USA) to promote the Peace of Christ by addressing systems of conflict and injustice across the world. Pine Street retains 25% of this offering, which this year will be used for the support of the Adult Learning Center. To contribute, use a Peace & Global Witness Offering envelope available at the church; send a check to the church with “Peace Offering” on the memo line; or visit www.pinestreet.org and click on the PayPal/Credit Card link, and please note that your contribution is for a Special Offering. We are thankful for peacemaking efforts throughout the world and for the ministry of the Adult Learning Center at Pine Street.

PEACE is active, not passive. It is a verb just as much as a noun. PEACE is doing, not waiting.
Preparing the Path to the Future – Updates from the Transition Team and the Interim Search Committee
The Transition Team would like to thank the members of the congregation who completed the Congregational Assessment Tool (CAT). We were very pleased to receive more than 100 completed surveys. The team will meet with the PneuMatrix consultant next week to begin looking at the survey data to determine how the experiences and input from our congregation will help to inform planning for the future.

The Interim Search Committee continues to examine candidates’ resumes and review recordings of those candidates’ sermons and worship services. We will be holding first round Zoom interviews with several candidates over the next week. Please continue to keep the Transition Team, Interim Search Committee, staff, officers, and congregation in your prayers as we continue to prepare this path to our future together.

COVID-19 – Mask Recommendation
In the past few weeks, Central Pennsylvania counties have reached a high positivity rate of COVID 19 transmission. This week, Session responded to this news by reviewing and supporting the CDC and Carlisle Presbytery recommendations that all individuals, no matter their vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings where there is a substantial or high transmission rate. Session asks worshipers to comply with these guidelines in consideration of the well-being of children, the immunocompromised, and any others who are not eligible to receive the vaccine.
