Advent in Narnia
During the Advent season, Matt will be leading Wednesday evening zoom Adult Forums based on the beloved book by C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Using a devotional guide by Heidi Havercamp called, Advent in Narnia, we will reflect on this holy season. As Heidi says, “Lewis’s first book about the land of Narnia is a perfect fit for the season of Advent.”
At each session we will be reading excerpts from the book, watching clips from movie adaptations, and discussing the story’s connections to Scripture. You do not need to have read the story to participate! Each session will be somewhat stand-alone, so join us for any of the sessions you can.
Heidi Havercamp’s book also includes a daily devotion that encourages a read-through of the classic novel during the season. If you would like to read along through the devotional materials in Advent in Narnia, or even read the original story, you can find both books through Amazon.
Stephen Ministry
For some folks, this may not be the most wonderful time of the year due to recent loss or painful memories. Stephen Ministry is available to be a listening ear, shoulder to cry on, or hand to hold. While your Stephen Ministers aren’t presenting the Surviving the Holidays formally this year, we are here to support you through the holidays and beyond if that is what you need. Please see any Stephen Minister or Pastor Matt for assistance.

Liturgists and Lectors
Are you looking for greater participation in worship? We have a great team of volunteers who serve as liturgists and/or lectors at weekly worship, but there is room for more. Those who served in 2023 received an email from Elyse Rogers asking them to confirm their willingness to continue to serve as lector, liturgist or both. If you received that email and have not responded, please do so promptly.
Lectors assist in worship by praying and reading one or two passages from the Bible on Sunday. Liturgists act as worship assistants to the pastor, praying and assisting in our weekly Communion celebration. Both roles are very important and spiritually enriching.
Depending on the number of volunteers, each person serves 2-3 times a year. Participants find their own substitute if they are unable to serve on a Sunday for which they are scheduled. We hope to circulate the 2024 schedule no later than December 15.
If you are interested in serving as a lector, a liturgist, or both, please feel free to call or email the church office at [email protected] to volunteer. You can also direct questions to Matt Drumheller ([email protected]) or Elyse Rogers ([email protected]). Thank you for considering serving in one or both important roles.

Bring a Friend to Church
Pine Street is asking you to participate in a “Bring a Friend to the Church” program during this Christmas season. In the month of December, many beautiful things happen at Pine Street, particularly, the Lessons and Carols and Christmas Eve services. Ask a friend to attend one of these services and get an RSVP from them via email or text, so that we may thank them for coming, through a gift or other act of kindness. Let’s make this Christmas a joyful one by reaching out to family, friends, and neighbors, and have them experience our way of celebrating the arrival of the Christ child. If you have questions about this program, contact the Engaging Our Neighbors Committee at [email protected].
