Kevin Long Preaching
While Matt is away on vacation this Sunday, Kevin Long will be leading us in worship. Kevin grew up in Northwest Ohio, and received degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he met his wife, Jennifer. He retired from a 20-year career in cyber security in 2020. He received his MDiv from Lancaster Theological Seminary in May 2022. He lives near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with Jennifer, their daughter, and an outspoken parrot. His faith has led to a passion for ecological justice, as well as a call to begin a new worshiping community. He has since founded Intertwined, which offers a space for the unchurched, de-churched, and those who encounter the divine most easily outdoors to explore faith through the lens of ecology.
Office to be closed
Due to staffing schedules and needs, the church office will be closed on July 31, 2023. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Pride Fest 2023
Pine Street’s Engaging Our Neighbors team needs additional volunteers at the Church’s Pride fest booth on Saturday, July 29 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Through our participation in this event, Pine Street is demonstrating our support of the LBGQT+ community and on our call of being a welcoming church. Similar to our involvement last year, we will once again share colorful origami art and information about our church with all who stop at our booth. This year, we will also invite visitors to complete a prayer request card so our congregation may pray for them and/or their loved ones. Please come out and show some support!

When one volunteer opportunity door closes, another one opens…..
First of all, thank you from the Engaging Our Neighbor Committee to all of you who expressed interest in and diligently worked on and obtained clearances and training for our Children’s Lunch Program. Over almost a 4-week period, we only had 7 children, so the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank called a halt to the food delivery. At that time, we took down our banner from the ramp railing and posted a sign on the ramp door informing anyone who might come to the church that the program had ended. Also, a big thank you to DDB’s Executive Director and staff who supported this endeavor by manning our kitchen, supplying the banner, and providing parking tickets.
Moving on and please note members’ clearances are on file in the church office and ready to be put into action for this next volunteer opportunity. And this time, children will be provided! Camp Curtin Academy would welcome tutors at their school during school hours. The school is located in the uptown area on the corners of Sixth and Division Streets. Ample parking is on the side of the school where tutors would enter. Stay tuned for more information and updates.
🎵 Calling All Musical Instruments 🎵
It started with Beth Alwine wanting to pass along her guitar to some appreciative person. Gia Johnson at Camp Curtin Academy approached the music teachers there, who were thrilled to take it off her hands. Ms. Johnson informed us the teachers would be happy to receive any instruments someone would like to donate.
The Mission Committee will “orchestrate” the pickup and delivery process.
July Giving Barrel
Camp Curtain will be the recipient of our July Giving Barrel. Please help us support this mission partner this summer.
While many of us don’t want to think about fall being our next season, along with it is the start of school for many. Camp Curtin Academy which has been our mission in Harrisburg School District will be opening its doors in August for the new school year. Our Mission Committee has again decided to support the students by donating new school uniforms. We’re starting earlier this year so we can deliver the clothes at the beginning of the school year. We thank you in advance for helping us fulfill this need. What child doesn’t like something new to wear at the start of school?
The specifics of the uniforms are much the same with solid colored 3-button polo shirts and khaki material long pants. We were told by social worker Gia Johnson that the “kids” prefer short sleeved shirts.
Girl sizes for shirts and pants are 10/12, 12/14, 16/18. Junior girl sizes for pants are 2, 5, 8, 10. Shirt sizes are Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
Boy sizes for pants are 14/16 and 18/20. Shirt sizes are Medium, Extra Large and a few 2X Large.
If anyone has any questions, would like help with their shopping or wants to make a donation, please contact Alicelyn Sleber.
Again, thank you for your help to “fill our Barrel”.
Current COVID Procedure
Pine Street Presbyterian Church will follow CDC guidelines to ease masking requirements and allow in-person gatherings, including food. While Dauphin and Cumberland Counties are in the low or medium community levels (according to the CDC’s “COVID-19 by County” page found at:
