September Giving Barrel
Harrisburg Area Food Pantry (HAFP)
HAFP is the new name for the 51-year-old agency, the Ecumenical Food Pantry, of which is a past recipient of Pine Street’s Mission Barrel donations. Recently, our mission team asked the HAFP if there were any items which their clients are in dire need. This month’s Giving Barrel request is for three of these items – toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels.
For more information, please contact a mission team member. Your participation with this project is greatly appreciated!
Fall is Coming!
Our first adult Forum for this year will be on Sept 17 11:30 am led by
Lee Barrett:
Revitalizing the Faith through Reclaiming Wisdom from Kierkegaard:
In our time together we will explore some of the more unconventional ways in which Christianity can be revitalized. To do this we will look thought the lends of the maverick Danish thinking Soren Kierkegaard, whose writings continue to challenge and unsettle the church. We will take a look at his unusual life, his context, and his thoughts in order to discern bits of wisdom that may be helpful to our current religious environment.
Lee C. Barrett is the Henry and Mary Stager Professor of Theology at Lancaster Theological Seminary. Before this he taught at what is now Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond. He is the author of several books and articles on the thought of Soren Kierkegaard and also on Reformed theology and popular culture. In his spare time Lee enjoys oil painting.
It takes a village…
Or in this case, a loving church who cares about their commitment to Camp Curtin Academy. Last week the backpack and school supply donations were blessed in our sanctuary by Pastor Drumhellar who prayed for the teachers, as well as the children who will be receiving the backpacks. For those of you who viewed the school donations in our sanctuary, there were 70 plus backpacks and an abundance of notebooks, binders, paper, pens, pencils, sharpeners, hand sanitizers, erasers, glue sticks and other school supplies. The Mission Committee will be delivering 34 pairs of khaki pants and 79 polo shirts, school supplies, musical instruments and a laptop. If you remember, the laptop was a request from last year for the Parent Center.
Gia Johnson, school social worker, asked for the delayed delivery so teachers have an opportunity to meet and get to know the individual needs of their students.
Thank you all for your generous giving!!!
