Insight Forum – Gospel Overture: The Christmas Story According to Matthew

The Rev. Dr. Russell C. Sullivan, Jr., Pastor, Pine Street Presbyterian Church

Themes found in the infancy narrative in Matthew are restated and reinforced throughout the body of the Gospel. As a result, the Christmas story can be understood as an overture to the Gospel, in much the same way that the music at the beginning of an opera introduces the themes that will be repeated in the body of the opera. Find out in Matthew’s version of Jesus’ birth what his main purpose is.

December 05

Hanging of the Greens

We need help to prepare our church for the Advent/Christmas season. Hanging of the Greens will be Tuesday, December 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. with a light dinner of pizza and salad in the Fellowship Hall. Please sign up at the Welcome Center. There will be a variety of tasks in the sanctuary, fellowship hall, outdoors, and the Boyd Center.

Sermons

God continues to speak to the church and world through the Bible. Our sermons come from the Biblical passages from the lectionary and are thoughtfully paired with prayers, hymns, and anthems to create a beautiful worship service that glorifies God.
